Bible Trans

Since 1986, Bill and Carolyn Murray, members of Wycliffe Bible Translators, have been working with members of the Zuni community to translate scripture and Bible materials into the Zuni language.

Currently, the active members of the translation team are Rose Chapman, Sherry Siutza and Delbert Haloo.

Across the years, a variety of Zuni language materials have been produced: scripture portions, Bible stories, a songbook and the Jesus, Acts, Genesis and John videos.  Bible videos have been especially well received by the community.  Other materials are used by the school and in the church.  Currently, the team is translating the epistle of Galatians.

Making scripture and Biblical material available in the Zuni language strengthens the church’s ministry by reducing the perceived barrier that Christianity is a ‘white man’s religion’, by increasing Biblical understanding as concepts are expressed in the first language, and by opening the opportunity and encouraging worship through a language that is the heartbeat of the Zuni culture.
